Delivery, Opens, Clicks, Bounces, and Unsubscribes
Email Campaign Metrics help you understand how your campaigns perform, how recipients interact with your messages, and where improvements can be made. Gersuz Email Marketing provides campaign tracking and Professional Analytics to help you monitor delivery results, identify recipient engagement, analyze link clicks, and manage invalid or unsubscribed addresses.
This guide explains the key metrics available in email marketing, how they work, how they are commonly calculated, and how you can use them to improve your campaign performance.
⚠️Important: Email tracking depends partly on recipient email providers, email clients, security systems, and privacy settings. Although Gersuz uses multiple detection methods and bot-detection mechanisms, no email tracking system can guarantee that every event is detected or classified perfectly.

Delivery Rate
Successfully Sent
What Is Delivery Rate?
Delivery Rate measures the proportion of emails sent in a campaign that are reported as successfully delivered to recipient mail servers. It helps you evaluate the effectiveness of your sending infrastructure and the quality of your recipient list.
A high Delivery Rate generally indicates that your messages are reaching recipient mail servers successfully. However, successful delivery does not necessarily mean that an email has reached the recipient's inbox. Some messages may be placed in spam or junk folders, depending on the recipient provider's filtering policies.
How Is Delivery Rate Calculated?
Delivery Rate is commonly calculated using the following formula:
For example, if a campaign sends 10,000 emails and 9,500 are confirmed as delivered, the Delivery Rate is 95%.
The exact calculation depends on how sent, delivered, and failed messages are recorded by the sending system. Temporary delivery failures and pending delivery notifications may also affect the reported results.
How Does It Work in Gersuz?
Gersuz Campaign Tracking provides visibility into campaign delivery results, sending activity, and delivery-related errors. This information helps you distinguish successful delivery outcomes from messages that encounter delivery problems.
Delivery statistics can help you identify potential recipient-list quality issues, sending configuration problems, or recurring provider-side errors. Reviewing these results regularly makes it easier to maintain a healthy sending process and investigate unexpected delivery failures.
Why Does Delivery Rate Matter?
A strong Delivery Rate is an important foundation for successful email marketing. Monitoring it helps you identify problems before they affect a larger portion of your audience.
To improve delivery performance, maintain clean recipient lists, configure your sending domain correctly, and follow responsible email-sending practices. Delivery Rate should be evaluated alongside Bounce Rate and other campaign metrics rather than treated as a complete measure of inbox placement.

Open Rate
Opened out of delivered emails tracked.
What Is Open Rate?
Open Rate measures the proportion of delivered emails for which an open event has been detected. It provides an indication of how recipients interact with your campaign after delivery.
Marketers commonly use Open Rate to evaluate subject lines, sender recognition, audience relevance, and the effectiveness of campaign timing. A higher Open Rate may indicate stronger initial engagement, although it does not necessarily mean that recipients have read the entire message.
How Is Open Rate Calculated?
Open Rate is commonly calculated using the following formula:
Open Rate = (Unique Opens Ă· Delivered Emails) Ă— 100
For example, if 9,500 emails are delivered and an open event is detected for 3,800 unique recipients, the Open Rate is 40%.
Unique Opens represent recipients whose emails generated at least one detected open event. This differs from total opens, which may include multiple detected events from the same recipient.
How Does Open Tracking Work in Gersuz?
Gersuz uses four different methods to detect email opens, helping the platform identify open activity through multiple detection approaches rather than relying on a single signal.
The system also incorporates a dedicated bot-detection layer for open events. This layer helps identify and filter automated activity generated by bots, security scanners, or other non-human systems, reducing the risk of treating every detected event as genuine recipient engagement.
Using multiple detection methods can improve tracking coverage, but it cannot eliminate every limitation. Some email clients and privacy services preload tracking resources or generate automated events, while others block tracking mechanisms entirely. Consequently, recorded opens may differ from actual human reading behavior.
Why Does Open Rate Matter?
Open Rate is useful for comparing campaign engagement over time and evaluating changes to subject lines, sender names, and sending schedules.
For more meaningful analysis, compare similar campaigns sent to comparable audiences instead of relying on a single result. Consider Open Rate together with Click Rate, conversions, and other available engagement signals.
Tracking limitation: Email providers' privacy policies, automatic image loading, tracking protection, and security mechanisms can cause undercounting or overcounting. Gersuz's multi-method detection and bot filtering help reduce these issues, but Open Rate should be treated as an estimate of detected open activity rather than a perfect record of human reading.

Click Rate (CTR)
Clicked out of delivered emails tracked
What Is Click Rate?
Click Rate, commonly referred to as Click-Through Rate (CTR), measures the proportion of delivered emails that generate a click from a unique recipient on a tracked link.
While Open Rate indicates detected initial engagement, Click Rate provides a more direct indication that recipients interacted with a link, button, or call to action within a campaign.
CTR can help you evaluate the effectiveness of your email content, promotional offers, calls to action (CTAs), and destination links.
For example, if 9,500 emails are delivered and 950 unique recipients click at least one tracked link, the Click Rate is 10%.
Unique Clickers represent distinct recipients who clicked a tracked link at least once. Total Clicks, by contrast, can include multiple clicks by the same recipient, including repeated clicks on the same link.
How Does Click Tracking Work in Gersuz?
Gersuz Campaign Tracking records click activity associated with tracked campaign links. The analytics help you identify recipient interactions and understand which links or calls to action attract attention.
Gersuz also provides URL Tracking, which allows you to create trackable URLs and use them in email templates, buttons, text links, and images. The resulting analytics can include total clicks, unique clicks, and recipient-level click activity.
A dedicated bot-detection layer is also used for click events to help distinguish automated link activity from genuine recipient interactions. This is particularly relevant because email security systems frequently scan links to identify malicious destinations before a recipient clicks them.
For configuration instructions, see the Gersuz URL Tracking Guide.
Why Does Click Rate Matter?
Click Rate helps you understand whether your email content motivates recipients to take the next step. It can reveal whether your offer is relevant, your CTA is clear, and your links are positioned effectively.
Comparing CTR across similar campaigns can help you identify effective content and improve future campaigns. For more detailed analysis, examine the performance of individual URLs instead of relying exclusively on the overall campaign rate.
Tracking limitation: Link scanners, automated security checks, privacy tools, and recipient email-client behavior may affect recorded clicks. Gersuz's bot-detection layer helps reduce automated click activity in analytics, but some automated events may be difficult to distinguish perfectly from human interactions.
Click-to-Open Rate (CTOR) measures the proportion of unique recipients with a detected open event who also clicked a tracked link in the campaign.
Unlike CTR, which measures clicks relative to delivered emails, CTOR focuses on recipients whose emails generated a detected open event. It therefore helps you evaluate how effectively your email content encourages further interaction among the audience represented by recorded opens.
CTOR is particularly useful when reviewing the relevance of your message, the clarity of your call to action, and the relationship between email content and recipient engagement.
How Is CTOR Calculated?
CTOR is commonly calculated using the following formula:
CTOR = (Unique Clickers Ă· Unique Opens) Ă— 100
For example, if 3,800 unique recipients generate an open event and 950 unique recipients click a tracked link, the CTOR is 25%.
This calculation assumes that the open and click counts refer to the same campaign and that unique clickers are counted consistently. If no unique opens are recorded, CTOR cannot be meaningfully calculated.
How Does CTOR Help You Analyze Campaigns in Gersuz?
Gersuz provides campaign-level open and click analytics so you can evaluate how recipients interact with your messages. Combining these metrics allows you to examine both initial engagement and subsequent link interaction.
For example, a campaign may have a relatively high Open Rate but a low CTOR. This could indicate that the subject line attracts attention while the email content, offer, or CTA does not generate enough interest to encourage clicks.
However, CTOR is also influenced by the reliability of open tracking. Because privacy services and email clients may automatically generate or suppress open events, the recorded open audience may not perfectly represent recipients who actually read the email.
Why Does CTOR Matter?
CTOR helps you evaluate the effectiveness of the content after a detected open event. It can guide improvements to CTA wording, link placement, message structure, and the relevance of the offer.
Use CTOR alongside CTR and Open Rate to gain a more complete view of campaign performance. A change in CTOR should not automatically be attributed to content quality without considering differences in tracking behavior, audience composition, and campaign objectives.

Bounce Rate
Hard Bounce &Â Soft Bounce
What Is Bounce Rate?
Bounce Rate measures the proportion of sent emails that cannot be delivered to their intended recipients and are reported as bounced by the relevant mail server or delivery-notification mechanism.
A bounce may occur because an email address does not exist, a recipient's mailbox is unavailable, a mail server rejects the message, or a delivery restriction prevents successful delivery.
Bounces are generally classified as hard bounces or soft bounces. Hard bounces indicate permanent delivery failures, while soft bounces generally indicate temporary problems, such as a full mailbox or a temporarily unavailable server. The exact classification depends on the reported error and the receiving server's response.
How Is Bounce Rate Calculated?
Bounce Rate is commonly calculated using the following formula:
For example, if 10,000 emails are sent and 500 are reported as bounced, the Bounce Rate is 5%.
The calculation should use the same campaign and reporting period for both values. Because some delivery notifications arrive after the initial sending process, bounce statistics may change as additional responses are received and processed.
How Does Bounce Handling Work in Gersuz?
Gersuz is designed to process returned email notifications through a user-configured Delivery Status Notification (DSN) account. The DSN account is used to receive delivery reports and bounce messages, including the associated error information when provided by the sending or receiving mail system.
Gersuz processes these notifications to classify delivery failures using their reported error codes and details. Emails associated with permanent delivery failures automatically added to the Suspension List..
This automated handling helps prevent future campaigns from repeatedly targeting addresses known to be invalid or permanently undeliverable. It also reduces unnecessary sending attempts and helps protect recipient-list quality and sending reputation.
The accuracy of bounce classification depends on the information returned by the receiving mail server. Some providers use different response codes or provide incomplete details, so not every delivery failure can be classified with absolute certainty.
Why Does Bounce Rate Matter?
A high Bounce Rate may indicate outdated recipient data, invalid addresses, sending configuration issues, or restrictions imposed by recipient mail servers.
Monitoring this metric helps you identify problems early and take corrective action. Review bounce details, maintain your recipient lists, and ensure that your DSN account is configured correctly so delivery notifications can be received and processed.
⚠️Important:The Suspension List is designed to prevent future sends to addresses identified as permanently undeliverable. Temporary delivery failures not automatically be treated as permanent failures unless the relevant error information supports that classification.

Unsubscribe Rate
These are email addresses that click on the "I do not want to receive emails again" link automatically generated by law at the bottom of the message.
What Is Unsubscribe Rate?
Unsubscribe Rate measures the proportion of recipients who opt out of receiving further marketing emails from a campaign or mailing program.
Unsubscribes are an important indicator of audience preferences and campaign relevance. A recipient may unsubscribe because the content is no longer relevant, the frequency of messages is too high, or the recipient no longer wants marketing communications.
Providing a clear and functional unsubscribe mechanism helps recipients manage their preferences and supports responsible email marketing practices.
Some email marketing platforms use total emails sent or another defined audience base as the denominator. When comparing rates across platforms, verify the calculation method used by each platform to ensure that the results are comparable.
How Does Unsubscribe Handling Work in Gersuz?
In Gersuz, the unsubscribe link is automatically included in the email footer unless the unsubscribe feature has been disabled in the campaign settings.
When a recipient clicks the unsubscribe link, the system requests the recipient's confirmation. Once the recipient confirms the action, Gersuz automatically places the recipient in the Unsubscribed group.
This process records the recipient's opt-out status and helps ensure that subsequent email campaigns do not send messages to that recipient. The automated handling reduces manual list management and helps prevent unwanted marketing emails from being sent again.
You need to remove the recipient in question from the "Unsubscribed" list so that they can be added back to the list of recipients.
Because the unsubscribe feature can be disabled in campaign settings, users should review their configuration carefully and ensure that their campaigns provide an appropriate way for recipients to opt out. Applicable legal requirements and email-provider policies should also be considered.
Why Does Unsubscribe Rate Matter?
Monitoring Unsubscribe Rate helps you understand whether your campaign frequency, content, and targeting align with recipient expectations.
A sudden increase may indicate that the message is irrelevant to the audience, the sending frequency is too high, or recipients did not expect to receive the campaign. Reviewing these patterns can help you refine audience segmentation and improve future communications.
Unsubscribes should not be viewed only as a negative outcome. They also provide useful feedback and help maintain a more relevant recipient list by respecting individual preferences.
Â
Understanding the Limitations of Email Tracking
Email analytics are valuable, but they do not provide a perfect record of every recipient action. The behavior of recipient email providers, privacy services, security scanners, and email clients can influence the data collected by tracking systems.
Gersuz incorporates multiple open-detection methods and bot-detection mechanisms for both opens and clicks. These measures help improve the quality of reported engagement data by reducing reliance on a single tracking signal and filtering identifiable automated activity.
However, certain privacy features may preload tracking resources, while other services may block or alter tracking events. Some automated activity may also resemble human behavior, making perfect classification technically difficult.
For these reasons, Open Rate, CTR, and CTOR should be interpreted as tracking-based indicators rather than absolute measurements of human attention. Delivery and bounce statistics also depend on the delivery reports and error information provided by mail servers.
For more detailed click analysis, use Gersuz URL Tracking to examine individual links and their performance within campaigns. See the URL Tracking feature and the Campaign Tracking feature for related functionality.

đź’ˇBest Practices for Using Email Campaign Metrics
Evaluate metrics together. Use Delivery Rate, Bounce Rate, Open Rate, CTR, CTOR, and Unsubscribe Rate to understand different aspects of campaign performance.
Compare similar campaigns. Differences in audience, campaign purpose, timing, and tracking behavior can affect results.
Review individual link performance. Use URL Tracking to identify which links and calls to action attract the most recorded engagement.
Maintain clean recipient lists. Review invalid addresses and ensure permanent delivery failures are handled appropriately.
Configure DSN correctly. Make sure your designated DSN account can receive delivery notifications so bounce information can be processed.
Respect recipient preferences. Keep unsubscribe handling appropriately configured and ensure opt-out requests are honored.
Interpret open and click data carefully. Bot detection improves analytics quality, but privacy and security mechanisms can still affect tracking accuracy.
Â
Email Campaign Metrics provide a practical foundation for understanding how campaigns are delivered, how recipients interact with messages, and where improvements can be made. Gersuz combines campaign-level analytics, URL Tracking, bot-detection mechanisms, DSN-based bounce processing, and automated unsubscribe handling to support more informed campaign management.
By reviewing these metrics regularly and understanding their limitations, you can make better decisions about content, audience targeting, delivery practices, and future campaign optimization.
